In
2006, we developed the first stage of our

Stage 1 of the garden was
made possible thanks to generous grants from LCC’s
Green
Partnership Award Scheme
and PCC’s
Central Area Forum

Teams of volunteers and
workers from
·
The department of
work and pensions
·
·
The Probation
Service
·
The Volunteer

·
Other individuals
including, Les James (our chief garden volunteer), Andy Bounds, Mel Rosebery (garden designer), Harvey Thorpe, Steve Smith
(Preston City Council Parks and Gardens Dept), Katharine Cowley
(LCC environment Dept).
And by supplying materials
and plants free or at discount rates: Clifton Marsh Landfill site, Garden Centre Plants, Barton
Grange Garden Centre, Oak Nurseries. BK fencing, B&Q Preston. Various members of The
Salvation Army corps

We
hope to work on and complete stage 2 by about Easter 2007.thanks to further
funding from the Lancashire County Council Environment Dept.
On the other side of the
building our playground for children under 11 is also complete and in use. It
is open in daylight hours for use by any child under adult supervision, and for
children attending activities at the centre.
For extra security the playground and surrounding area is monitored by
TV cameras which record what is going on 24/7.
We are grateful to
The
Lancashire Environmental Fund, whose
grant paid for just under half of the cost:
Lancashire Environmental Fund is a partnership between SITA UK Ltd, Lancashire
County Council, The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire,
The team
from Wicksteed
who supplied and installed the equipment.

We also have a car park which
(only between 9am and 6pm on weekdays,
and subject to availability on an hour by hour basis) may be used by members of
the public who purchase IN ADVANCE FROM
OUR OFFICE a £2 all day permit. Vehicles parked without a permit at any
time are liable to a £60 penalty charge.
Our
exciting new project for 2007 is to install and commission a computer learning
suite in room GP4. Funding has recently been confirmed from Avencentral
Partnership, the St. Georges and Town Centre Neighbourhood Management Board and
the Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities Fund which will allow us to
find a supplier and start work in April. We hope to be up and running by
midsummer.
The
new suite will allow us to run classes and activities and run open access
learning and browsing sessions for our centre users and the local community.
Because the equipment will include lots of video and photographic items the
suite will be an excellent base for multimedia learning, community arts
projects and digital photography clubs. We are working with recognised adult
education providers to develop a programme of lifelong learning activities, and
it will be possible for organisations to hire the facilities for one off
training events.

people including people with disabilities or learning difficulties.
