Some are more obvious than others, some are there because the Full Name is just too long or weird for everyday use. The Problem with this sort of thing is that it tends to Alienate the Uninitiated. It's similar to the Experiences that most of us have come across with Doctors, Government Agencies & Gardening Programs! Where the Terms Used are virtually Unrecognizable, or even Pronounceable, to the General Populace.

As Computer use Increases there seems to be more & more use of Initials, Abbreviations & some things that have possibly been made up to look or sound impressive. It is in the Nature of Groups to develop these things as a means of Communicating more Efficiently & Exactly.
What sometimes happens is that it can be used to Isolate One Group from Another or, at its worst, to make One Group feel Superior to the Others. Don't be Fooled! It's like People who seem unable to explain anything in words less that 5 Syllables, eventually they have to deal with the Real World & if no one can understand them then they're the ones who'll have the problem(s).
So my suggestion to All who Read this is:
Hang on in there, don't be put off & if in doubt - Ask. If you don't get an understandable Answer it probably isn't worth knowing. Once you've found out, make a note of it :-)Finally, if you find anything on this Site that you don't understand or Term not mentioned then Email me & point it out
