What does Staffordshire Aero Club do?

Members of the Club fly a wide range of microlight types.

Weightshift
Makes of Weightshift aircraft include Alpha, Blade, Chaser, Raven, Sprint and Quasar.

3-Axis
Makes of 3-Axis aircraft include AX3, Foxbat, Hawk, MW6, Shadow and Spectrum.

The AX3 is a French design. This type is currently used for 3-axis training by the School

The MW6 is a British design built from plans.

The following is the prototype MW6 designed by Mike Whittaker. It has flown well over 1,000 hours with an assortment of engines and propellers.

The following is a photo of the Spectrum. Its docile nature and rugged undercarriage make it a good choice for early 3-axis pilots.

Training on weightshift and 3-axis microlights is available through an affiliated school. Telephone Gordon Faulkner on 01543 673075 for further details. Gordon does weightshift training on his Blade.

After gaining their PPLs most pilots spend the following few weeks flying in the local vacinity of Otherton. Soon, however, many want to 'spread their wings'. Fifty mile trips are not uncommon but several of our members have ventured much, much further. In August/September 1996 a couple of our intrepid flyers took their 'Mistral' (biplane microlight) to the Isle of Skye but to date the Club record is held by four who flew two 'Shadows' (well known for long distance flights) to the south of France over 70 miles of English Channel! See below for some photos taken by them.

In the summer of 1998 several members flew to Abbeville, France from where they flew a tour of the battlefields of the first world war.
