Page 2: From Barbate, in southern Spain, to Gibraltar and Morocco.

Between Cadiz and the next harbour of Barbate lay another prominent landmark, the headland of Cape Trafalgar, famous in British history as the scene of a famous naval victory over the Spanish and French fleet in 1805. After the battle a fierce local wind, known as the Levanter, bore down on the remaining ships causing many to founder. At Barbate, within site of the coast of Africa and but a short sail from Gibraltar, we too were forced to take refuge from the Levanter as it blew for five days, sometimes even reaching force 10.

From the Queensway Marina there (left) we made the short sail across the Straits of Gibraltar (below) to Morocco....hence the camel!
