Joy of Mann sitting high
and dry in Watermouth harbour. Just under ten metres in length she had
a 36 horsepower Volvo diesel engine and berths for six people in two
cabins. The Bristol Channel is well known for its considerable tidal
differences which in this harbour can be over six metres. This not only
severely limits the amount of sailing but also means that bilge keels
and a strong, reliable engine are necessary. Higher up the channel,
at the port of Bristol, the difference can be as much as twelve metres.
