WANTED TO KNOW.
We are often asked what it's really like inside the manor (Cricket St Thomas), so here below are a few photos of how it looked before it was sold to Warner Holidays. |

We have had a question regarding
the position of the Lodge to the Manor in real life. Is it at the end of
the drive as shown in the series?

We
were asked by Drew Sexton about the TTMB books and who wrote them.
There were two books written by Peter Spence and published around 1980 by Arrow Books. They are no-longer available from the publishers, but you might be able to get one through a second-hand book seller. The ISBN numbers are as follows:

Did they really film inside Cricket House and who owns it now? These questions were raised by Jane Owens. Yes Jane, they filmed part of the shooting episode in the hall at Cricket as you can see from the attached photograph, also it was used in episodes 16, 17, 19, & 21. The other scenes inside the manor were all done on studio sets. |
| Until this year Cricket St
Thomas was owned by Mr John Taylor who is the brother-in-law of Peter Spence
the creator and writer of To The Manor Born. Cricket House has now been
bought by the holiday company Warner, who are in the process of turning
it into an hotel. They are hoping to have it open in August 1999. It will
be for short breaks for adults.
They now have a new web page. www.warnerholidays.co.uk We hope Jane this has answered your questions. Unfortunately we were unable to reply to your email at the address given, perhaps you could drop us a line again soon with your correct address. Another one of those questions we keep getting asked is " Have you spelt Audreys husbands name correctly, should it not be Martin". We're sorry to have to say that those of you who think it's Martin and not Marton are wrong. To prove the point we have included two cuttings below ****** When Peter Spence the creator and writer of To The Manor Born was typing the draft copy of the original radio pilot he made a typing error. This was in 1978 and he was using a manual typewriter so there was no spell checker. instead of typing Martin he had typed Marton. Checking your keyboards will show how easy this is to do. Whilst it was being read through with the producer John Lloyd, this minor error ( amongst a few others ) was spotted. John questioned Peter about it, wondering if it was indeed an error or intentional. Peter confirmed it to be an error and said he would change it. John Lloyd, however, said that he liked it and that the aristocracy were always mucking about with the spelling of things, besides he said everone will pronounce it as Martin so what's the difference. So there you have it. On the insistance of the BBC producer John Lloyd, Audrey's husband was to be called Marton fforbes-Hamilton.
