THE VIEW FROM THE CHURCH TOWER

Baldock's Mill from the church tower

THE CHURCH TOWER is the highest accessible point in Bourne from which to view the surrounding landscape and it is estimated at being 100 feet high. From the battlements you can see the rooftops of the town and pick out many of our prominent buildings such as Baldock's Mill in South Street, built as a working water mill in 1800 and now the home of the Heritage Centre. This bird's eye view also gives an idea of how the town is expanding and although the urban panorama before you embraces most of what we have, expansion at our current rate means that the boundaries will soon be lost from view and there is also the danger that some of our favourite buildings may disappear as the victims of progress.

On the skyline to the north you can see the long line of terraced houses known as Woodview, built in 1898 and still providing useful accommodation, while other prominent buildings are also familiar, the vicarage and church hall, the Methodist Church in Abbey Road, the Mason's Arms, the Corn Exchange, the Cedars retirement home and many more.
