The BourneVariety Show
A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR |
|
|
The variety show was the idea of the Mayoress of Bourne, Mrs Pam Holmes, and was held at the Corn Exchange on Saturday 21st February 2004 to raise money for the annual mayor's charity which this year will be devoted to providing additional youth facilities for the town. The event was a sell out and a great success and the mayor has since sent this message to the people of Bourne. |

I JUST WANTED TO SAY how thrilled I was that the Variety Show was such a
success. A packed Corn Exchange, 23 brilliant acts, great presenter (Norman
Brown), the show overran big time but nobody left before the end. Bourne must surely be the best place on earth. I was truly humbled by the extremely positive feedback from both the artists and the audience. I asked for support from the people in the parish and it came to me in abundance. A night which will stay with me for a very long time. The visiting civic leaders asked me how I had done it and I told them: "This is Bourne. You ask for help, you get help." It made a great impression on them. I know they will go back to their own towns, Lincoln, Gainsborough, Louth, Grantham, Oakham, Melton, Sleaford, Burgh le Marsh and Ely, together with the chairmen of the district councils and the county council, (all of whom paid for their seats), and talk about Bourne and what it can do for the community. That was what this night was about, bringing the community together, engendering community spirit and it worked. I wish to thank everyone for their contribution towards making this night so successful. It raised over £1,000 for the mayor's charity despite the fact that the tickets were priced so that anyone could afford to come, and so many did. I just needed to tell the town what a great night it was. If you were there, you would know if I shook your hand at the entrance, as I tried to do with every member of the audience, and if I failed to recognise you, to put a name to a face, then I apologise.
