Roots

Few churchgoers know much about their roots.
The long and complex history of the Church is
seldom paid much attention. This series of essays
dips briefly into the past to identify some of the
roots which have supported and fed the great tree which is the Church. But the primary aim of the
essays is to examine the challenges which face the Church in the next millennium. The central thesis
is that the Church has moved away in many respects from the essence which it should derive from Jesus
of Nazareth.

 Why
 bother to ...?

Tony Windross takes
   a look at  Christian roots

Tony Windross is Vicar of St Peter's, Sheringham, England. Here he briefly revisits some Christian basics. Each piece started life as an experimental leaflet to be left in St Peter's. They were aimed at parishioners and visitors who might be questioning the roots of their faith. The leaflets did not get universal approval.

Why bother to ...

1. ... think about religion?
2. ... go to church?
3. ... read the Bible?
4. ... take God seriously?
5. ... pray?
6. ... say the Creed?
7. ... think about evil?

Tony has written "A Thoughtful Guide to Faith" (O-Books, 2004) in which he addresses many Christian doctrines in the light of contemporary thought. "This book was born out of frustration and embarrassment," he writes. The result is a cracking good read. (Available at Amazon)
