The Good News According to Matthew:
Chapter Nine
9.2, 7-8
Some people brought Jesus a paralysed man lying on a bed. Jesus
perceived their trust and spoke to the paralysed man who got up and went
home. The crowd which saw this happen were fearful and praised God for
giving such authority to men.
9.9
Once as Jesus was walking along he saw a man sitting at a tax
collector's station. The man got up and followed him.
9.10-12
It once happened that Jesus was having a meal in a certain house. A
crowd of taxmen and outcasts came along and shared his meal. When
some Pharisees saw this they asked, "Why does the Teacher eat with
taxmen and outcasts?" Jesus responded, "Those who are
well don't need a doctor. It's those who are ill who need one. I'm not
here for the sake of religious people but for outcasts."
9.15
Some of John's followers came up to Jesus and asked, "Why is it
that we and the Pharisees fast, but your followers don't?"
Jesus said to them:
"A bridegroom's friends don't go into mourning
while he's still with them, do they?"
9.16
Jesus said, "Nobody patches up an old coat with a piece of new cloth. The new cloth
will shrink, pull away from the old, and make an even worse tear."
9.17
And again, "Nobody pours new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the
wineskins will burst and the wine will run out. Instead they put the new
wine into new wineskins so that both wine and skins are safe."
9.20, 22
Once a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years came up to him
from behind and touched the hem of his cloak. So Jesus turned round and
when he saw her he spoke to her. And she was cured on the spot.
9.35
Jesus travelled around the towns and villages. He taught in synagogues
and told people the good news about how God does things, and healed all
sorts of sicknesses and ailments.
