The Good News According to Matthew:
Chapter Three

3.1 & 2
Round about that time John the "Baptiser" appeared in the barren lands of Judea. He said, "Mend your ways because God's kingly rule is on its way."

3.5 & 6
Then people from Jerusalem and all over Judea, and from the whole region around the River Jordan trooped out to John. They owned up to their misdeeds and he baptised them in the Jordan. John saw that many Pharisees and Sadducees were coming to him to be baptised.

3.11
John said: "I baptise you with water as a sign of your change of heart. But someone more powerful is coming after me. I'm not fit even to carry his sandals. He will baptise you with holy spirit and fire."

3.13
About that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan. He went to John to be baptised by him.
