The Good News According to Matthew: Chapter Nineteen

19.1-2
Jesus left Galilee and went into Judea, where large crowds followed him around. He healed them there.

19.4-6, 8
Jesus said: "Haven't you read that in the beginning the Creator 'made humans male and female'? It also says, 'This is why a man leaves his father and his mother and is united with his wife. The two become, as it were, one person.' Thus they are no longer two people but a unity. Nobody should separate what God has unified. It was only because they are so stubborn that Moses allowed men to divorce their wives. It wasn't originally like that."

19.13-14
Little children were brought to Jesus so that he could lay hands on them with prayer. But the followers told them off. Jesus said, "Don't stop the children from coming to me. The heavenly kingdom is for people such as these."

19.16-23
A man once came to Jesus and asked him, "Teacher, what good should I do to get eternal life?" Jesus replied, "There is only one who is good. Observe the commandments if you want to enter life. You must not murder, or commit adultery or give false evidence. You should honour your parents and love your neighbour as you love yourself. If you want to be mature, take action and sell your belongings. Give the proceeds to the poor. You'll possess heavenly riches. Then come and follow me."

19. 23-24
Jesus said, "It's incredibly hard for a rich person to enter the heavenly kingdom. I tell you again, it's easier for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter God's kingdom."

19.29-30
Jesus said, "Anyone who leaves home, or father, or mother, or brothers, or sisters, or children, or farms because of me will be rewarded a hundred times over and be ensured eternal life."

And again, "Many of the first will be last, and of the last many will be first."
