The Good News According to Matthew: Chapter Eighteen

18.3
Jesus said: "I'm telling you, unless you change your behaviour and become like children you will never get into the way God does things."

18.12-13
Jesus said: "Consider this. If a person has a hundred sheep and it happens that one strays away, isn't it true that the person will leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go to look for the lost one? And when he finds it, I can tell you that he'll be more thankful about the one sheep than over the ninety-nine which didn't
wander off."

18.23-34
Jesus said: "The way God does things is something like a head of state who decided to audit the accounts of his slaves. When the process began, a debtor was brought to him who owed him a huge sum of money. Because he couldn't pay back the debt, the ruler ordered that he be sold, with his wife and children and all his possessions, so that the money could be recovered.

"The slave fell down and pleaded with him: 'Be patient with me,' he said, 'I'll pay it all back.' Being a man of compassion, the slave's boss cancelled the debt and let him off.

"No sooner he had gone off, when this same slave tackled a fellow slave who owed him a paltry sum. He grabbed him by the neck and said, 'Pay back what you owe me!' His fellow slave fell down and begged him, 'Be patient with me and I'll pay you back!' But the slave refused to listen, and instead had him thrown into prison until the debt was paid back.

"When the other slaves found out what had happened, they got really upset and went straight to their master and told him all about it.

"So the ruler told the slave to come and see him, and said to him, 'You evil fellow! I remitted your entire debt because you asked me to. Isn't it only right that you should have shown the same mercy to your fellow slave?' And, in an angry mood, the ruler handed the fellow over for punishment until the debt was paid."
