The Good News According to Matthew: Chapter Fourteen

14.1, 3-5, 10
Herod Antipas heard the rumour going around concerning Jesus. Recall that Herod had arrested John and imprisoned him. He did this because of Herodias, of whom John had said, "It's not right for you to have her."

Although Herod wanted to execute John, he was afraid of the crowds because they thought of John as a prophet. Nevertheless, he sent orders and had him beheaded in the prison.
