The Good News According to Mark:
Chapter Eight

8.11-12
Some Pharisees came along and started an argument with Jesus. To put him to the test they urged him to produce a heavenly sign. He gave a deep sigh and said, "Why does this generation demand a sign? I swear before God, it won't get one!"

8.14
Jesus also said, "Watch out for the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod." *

8.22-24
They all arrived at Bethsaida where a blind man was brought to Jesus. They pleaded with him to touch him. So Jesus took him by the hand and led him out of the village. After spitting in his eyes, he placed his hands on him and asked him if he could see.

As the man's sight began to return, the first thing he said was, "I see people who look like trees walking around."

8.36 Jesus said, "What good does it do if a person acquires the entire world but has to pay for it with life itself? After all, what can a person give in exchange for his life?"

* Leaven to the Jews of this time was a symbol of corrupting sinfulness.
