The Good News According to Mark:
Chapter Ten

10.1
Jesus set out and travelled into the province of Judea, which lies across the Jordan River. And, as usual, he started teaching the crowds which gathered around him.

10.13-14
People used to bring children to Jesus for a blessing. His aides scolded them for doing this, at which point Jesus got irritated. He said: "Let children come to me - don't prevent them. For God's empire consists of people who are like this."

10.17-22
A person once ran up to Jesus, knelt in front of him, and started asking questions. He said, "Good teacher, what must I do to be guaranteed eternal life?"

Jesus said, "What makes you call me 'good'? Nobody is really good except God. Anyway, you already know the commandments: Don't murder; don't commit adultery; don't steal; don't perjure yourself; don't defraud others; and respect your parents."

The young man replied, "Teacher, I've done all these things since I was young."

Jesus was much struck by him and said, "You're missing the point! Get yourself into gear and sell all your possessions. Give the proceeds to the poor - and then you'll have an eternal payoff."

The young man went away with a long face. He was stunned by this counsel because he was extremely rich.

10.24-25
Jesus also said, "How difficult it is for people with lots of money to do things God's way," and "It's easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to act in harmony with God's ways."

10.31
Jesus said, "Many of those who are first will be last, and many of those who are last will be first."

10.42-45
Jesus also said: "You know all too well that those who assume rule over foreigners boss them around, and you know how powerful officials tyrannise them. It shouldn't be like that for you. With you, whoever wants to be great should be everyone's servant, and whoever among you wants to be a leader must be the slave of the rest."

10.46-52
When a certain blind beggar heard that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by, he shouted out, "Jesus, Son of David, show pity to me!" Everybody yelled at him to shut up, but he cried out all the louder, "Son of David, have pity on me."

Jesus paused, so they spoke to the blind man and said to him, "Take heart! He's calling you." So he threw off his cloak, jumped up, and walked over to Jesus.

Jesus' response was to ask, "What do you want me to do for you?"

The blind man said, "Sir, I want to see again" - and immediately got his sight back.
