A Historical Jesus

The Good News According to Mark:
Chapter One
1.1-5, 6-7
John, the man who was called "The Baptiser", came one day to
the barren lands. He preached to people that they should be
baptised, admit their wrongdoings and have their sins forgiven.
Many came from Judea and Jerusalem and were immersed by
John in the River Jordan, confessing their sinfulness.
John lived on locusts and wild honey. Around that time a certain Jesus of Nazareth in
Galilee arrived and was baptised by John in the Jordan.
1.12, 14, 16, 19, 21-22, 28
Jesus spent some time in the barren lands and then went to Galilee,
announcing God's good news. He called Simon and his brother, Andrew (who
were fishermen); and also the two brothers James and John, sons of Zebedee. He said to them, "Become my
followers and you'll be fishing for people!" Jesus went to Capernaum and
spoke out in the synagogue, impressing with his air of authority those
who heard him. He also healed people, driving out demons. His reputation
spread throughout Galilee and even
beyond.
1.30, 32
Simon's mother-in-law was once in bed with a fever. They
told Jesus about her immediately. So he went up to her room. He took her hand and lifted her up. The fever went away and she got on with looking after the men. Jesus cured many people of various
diseases and drove out
demons. 1.40-42
A man with a terrible skin disease once came up to Jesus. He pleaded with Jesus saying, "If you want to, you can make me clean." Jesus was indignant. He stretched out his hand and said to the
man with the disease, "I want it! You're clean". The man's
disease disappeared at once.
