The Good News According to Luke
Chapter Nineteen
19.12-24
Jesus told them this parable:
"A certain famous man once took a trip to a distant land. He sent
for ten of his employees and gave each of them ten coins. He told them,
'Invest this in business while I'm gone.'
When he got back he sent for the ten employees to whom he had given the
money to find out how much they had made.
The first came in a reported, 'Master, your investment has increased by
a thousand percent!' He said to him, 'Well done! You're a good employee.
Because you've proved trustworthy in this small matter, I'll put you in
charge of ten cities.'
The second came in and reported, 'Sir, your investment has increased by
five hundred percent.' He said to him, 'I'll put you in charge of five
cities.'
And another employee came in and reported, 'Sir, here are your ten
coins which I have kept hidden in a handkerchief. I was scared of you
because your are a demanding man. You take what you didn't earn and reap
what you didn't sow.' So he said to him, 'You've judged yourself with your
own words. You useless employee! You were perfectly well aware that I take
what I don't earn and reap what I don't sow. So why didn't you deposit the
money in the bank? Then when I got back I could have collected the
interest.'
Then he said to his assistants, 'Take the money away from this fellow.
Give it to the one who has ten coins.'"
19.26
Jesus said, "To everyone who has, even more will be given. And
from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away."
19.46
Jesus went into the Temple and chased out the vendors there. He said, "It's
written, 'My house should be a house of prayer,' but you're turning into
'a den of thieves.'"
