The Good News According to Luke
Chapter Sixteen

16.1
Jesus said to his friends, "Once there was a wealthy man whose manager was accused of squandering his boss's assets. The owner called him in and said to him, 'What's all this I've been hearing about you? Give a report of your management, because you can't be my manager any longer.'

"Then the manager said to himself, 'My boss is going to get rid of me. What shall I do? I'm not strong enough to dig ditches and I'd be ashamed to beg. I know what I'll do when I'm chucked out so that people will open their doors to me!'

"So he called in every one of his boss's debtors.

"To the first he said, 'How much do you owe the owner?' He replied, 'A hundred barrels of oil.' So he said to him, "Here's the invoice. Quickly! Sit down and put in fifty.'

"To another he said, 'And how much do you owe?' He answered, 'A thousand bushels of wheat.' So he said to him, 'Here's your invoice. Put down eight hundred.'

"The owner admired the dishonest manager because he had acted so shrewdly."

16.13
Jesus also said: "Nobody can work under two bosses. He will disregard the one and respect the other; or he will be devoted to one and despise the other."

And also, "You can't dedicate your life to both God and to getting rich."
