The Good News According to John:
Chapter Five
5.2-3, 5-9
Next to where the sheep are kept in Jerusalem there's a pool called Bethzatha
in Hebrew. The pool has five colonnades. Many sick people used to
lie around among them - the blind, the lame and the paralysed. One of the men had
been disabled for thirty-eight years.
Jesus saw him and realised that he had been like that a long time. So
he said to him, "Do you want to get well?"
The disabled man replied, "Sir, I have nobody to put me in the
pool when the water is ruffled. Someone else always gets there before me when I
try to get in."
Jesus said to him, "Get up, pick up your mat, and get
walking!" The man got better immediately, picked up his mat and
started walking.
