East of England | Projects | No. 10 Petition - Provide funding and use legislation to create bridleways, 2008

The Prime Minister's website contains a facility for hosting a petition on matters of public importance, with the promise that for well supported petitions, a Government response will be published. It depends on enough voters signing the petition.

The petition

"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to provide funding and use legislation for creation of new public bridleways."

  • If you agree with the aims of this petition, why not sign it now. The process is entirely online and only takes a few minutes.

Horse Riders have access to less than 25% of the current public rights of way network, and face danger when using today's busy roads. We need:

To ensure appropriate funding is in place and legislation (Highways Act 1980 S.26) used by local authorities for new bridleways to be created and shown on definitive maps and ordnance survey maps.

To ensure the Highway Agency develops a national programme of re-instating severed crossing points by creating new dedicated bridle bridges or underpasses as safe crossing points for motorways or trunk roads.

To ensure local authorites and parish councils develop local joined up "Community Circuits" of 5-15 mile riding routes to rebuild the National Bridleroute Network.
