We're delighted to report that the order to record a bridge over the M1 motorway in Bushey has been confirmed by the County Council as an unopposed order. There had initially been one objection, but this was subsequently withdrawn. The application was made in 1996. The Patchetts Green Riding Club noted that it wasn't on the definitive map when they conducted a survey of riding routes in 1991 for the Society's Year of the ARROW (Access and Riding Rights of Way).
The County Council turned down the application to record the path, and so an appeal to the Secretary of State was made. He agreed with us and with the Patchetts Green Bridleways Trust and directed the Council to make the order. We refer to the route as "saved" because routes like this one that are not recorded on the definitive map of rights of way by 1 Jan 2026 are extinguished by virtue of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.
If you value this sort of work, please consider making a donation to BHS Hertfordshire funds. A suitable link is via our Essendon 4 appeal blue box to the right.
We're delighted to report that the order to record bridleway Essendon 4 has been confirmed by an Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State. There had been one objector, but the Inspector agreed with the BHS and the County Council, and has confirmed the order.
This path was recorded thanks to historical evidence from the BHS, and with user evidence collected by the North Mymms Riding Club. The County Council processed this application quickly because of the value to riders of the link.
