If you need to talk to someone about a bridleway or byway, or a potential bridleroute, or problems that are being encountered regarding a right of way, the following contacts will be useful.

• Contact the local access and bridleways officer (ABO) in the first instance about all matters to do with local paths. The name and telephone number of your ABO can be found in the BHS members' year book, where they are listed by county and district.

• Contact the CABO if the ABO can't help, or there isn't a local ABO. The CABO is normally responsible for path consultations within the county, unless delegated to an ABO.

• Contact the RABO if the CABO can't help, or there isn't a CABO. The RABO is also responsible for matters of policy, regional consultations, and Parliamentary local bills within the region unless delegated to a CABO.

• Contact HQ if the RABO can't help, for national-level contact with other bodies, or for copies of leaflets and publications.

In order to keep questions at a level that is manageable for each person in the chain, please start local and work upwards if needed. Otherwise HQ and the RABO get swamped and can then help nobody!
