I have worked as a full time Consultant in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery in the National Health Service and private practice, since 1992. After undergraduate medical training at the London Hospital Medical College, London I qualified in medicine in 1979. I then undertook training in surgery in the UK from 1980 to 1992, eight years of this being in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery. I am fully accredited in Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery, being included in the General Medical Council specialist register.
Orthopaedics is the largest branch of surgery and comprises the management of disorders of the bones and joints, and their associated soft tissues. A large proportion of modern orthopaedic surgery involves the replacement of major joints which have been rendered painful by arthritis. "Trauma" is the management of all injuries involving the head, spine and limbs.
Most of my work is general adult Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery. I also provide the Paediatric (Childrens') Orthopaedic service to the catchment area of the Lister Hospital, Stevenage. My NHS appointment is at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage (part of the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust) where I undertake my routine orthopaedic and trauma practice. I undertake the majority of my private practice at Pinehill Hospital, Hitchin, Hertfordshire. This is a 40 bedded hospital fully equipped to carry out all routine orthopaedic surgical operations.
My special interests include:
