Cancer that starts in the
bone is known as primary bone cancer.
This is not the same
disease as cancer that spreads to the bone from another part of the body.
There are many different types of
bone cancer, all of which are rare.
The exact causes of primary bone cancer are
unknown.
·
Pain in a
bone and its surrounding area. The pain may begin as a dull ache that simply
does not go away and gradually gets worse, possibly accompanied by a
"hot" sensation in that area.
·
There may be
a lump or swelling in the area.
·
Tiredness and
weight loss.
But a doctor should always be
informed about persistent bone pain.
·
Surgery
·
Chemotherapy
·
Limb sparing
surgery: here the affected bone is replaced with a
bespoke metal prosthesis. This means that for some people, amputation can be
avoided
