March Kenilworth Fundraiser at Rayners Opticians, Kenilworth.
This was held
in memory of CRAIG HARRIS and organised by his family and Rayners Opticians who
also kindly donated a percentage of their sales to the Fund. Many thanks indeed
to the family, the optician and everyone involved for their generosity and
support.
A thousand thanks to all our runners who took part in the Adidas (formerly Hydra Active) Women's 5k Challenge last 7th Sept 2008. This helped boost the fund over £75,000!
Danson Park Festival, Bexley, Bexley, July 2008
Many thanks to all those lovely people who donated great prizes for our tombola at this popular, fun event in a beautiful park, and those who helped out on the day and not least, visited our stall and bought tickets and books.
We raised nearly £1,500 despite a wet Sunday! This boosted the Fund to over £74,000. Look out for us again next year
Quiz Night in Hawley, 3lst May 2008
Another highly enjoyable evening, superbly planned and
arranged by young Rebecca Gates who volunteered as a fundraiser as part of her
participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. We all had a good time: the end result was a close shave,
there were unexpected bursts of song from Tony X, and the night raised nearly
£480, helping to boost the fund total to over £73,000. Many thanks to everyone who attended,
and bought raffle and tombola tickets, for their support. We're particularly grateful to Rebecca,
for her dedication and hard work planning this event and excellent
organisational skills, and all wish her every success with her DoE Award -
which she undoubtedly deserves. Thanks also to John, the Man with the Mike/Master of Ceremonies.
St Valentine's Disco, Sidcup Rugby Club, 16th February 2008

*** The MCBCF Presentation Ball 2007 ***
last June at the Dartford Hilton was a great success: lots of fun with great food and dancing. Jill Cross spoke about Mark's illness,
and the importance of raising money to research into this very rare kind of
cancer, and told people how the fund is being used at UCH. Again, she thanked the many people
whose time and effort has gone into raising money: it is a fitting tribute to
Mark, his family and friends, and the stamina and goodwill of countless
others. Altogether, the night raised well over £2,000. Thanks everyone!

THE RESULT: PRESENTATION, JUNE 2005
On 11th June 2005 Jill Cross proudly handed over a cheque for £36,000 from the Mark Cross Bone Cancer Fund to Dr Jeremy Whelan, Senior Consultant Oncologist at University College Hospital, at the Grand Presentation Dinner at the Hilton, Dartford. Dr Whelan spoke about bone cancer and the specific research project this money will support. Many people's time and effort went into raising this amount of money; too many to thank individually. It was marvellous to thank some of them on the night. The money raised is a fitting tribute to Mark, his family, and the tenacity and good will of so many others. Here are Jill, Dr Whelan and the cheque (in a dark banqueting hall):
The Mark Cross Bone Cancer Fund holds many fund-raising events in the southeast
London/north west Kent area. If you want to come along and take part
please see below or contact us direct. Past events, sponsors and the Roll
of Honour are detailed below. This is by no means a local charity: people
are welcome to organise fund-raising events for the fight against bone cancer
in their own area.

the Village, Hall, Hawley on 8th October. This was tremendous fun and raised over £230 for our Fund. We look forward to another
Quiz Night with Mick in the future. Retired greyhounds make wonderful, docile, pets, a far better fate than
being put down once they are no longer “useful”. Click on the greyhound's tail at
