6 ALL YOU CAN DO IS KEEP WALKING
ALL YOU CAN DO IS KEEP WALKING

Ben Myers

Too many scratched lines
and cigarette burns
from T-shirt nights;
little scars like diary entries,
fading Polaroids made from flesh
there's memories within those marks:
memories of drinking and clumsy summers
or pea-soup nights up against the heater
accidental, indelible, slightly mental
subtle marks and tiny fine hairs.
Marks to remind us of good and bad
situations with girls, by rivers
near bus stations, drunk
under the covers, the windows open,
the long walk home,
bottle in hand, grinning
behind sunglasses at 3 am
dropping keys, cursing the birds,
climbing fences, kicking cans
loving and hating in equal measures.
