The Gift

Wendy Sullivan

I saw this smile on a babies face
& wondered why we fret & frown
knowing full well the sad discourses
of day to days survival round

So much is written, faxed & read
but nothing much is ever said.....
we have to demonstrate for fairer play
as killing fields from corporate greed
extract the life blood for nation's seed.

Meanwhile the dome, & the ferris wheel
could have fed, housed & watered many;
instead the few strut in pride
upon the cat walk of the big divide!

there'll be a mayor & fewer Lords,
a new labour babe & a martian find,
But 'the world is not enough' so pause...
- a smile is thus the richest kind
of face-mail gift from me to you!
