The Shallowness of the Male

Jacqueline Weir

His impatience:
'Look presentable!'
Dragging herself around.
A life lived
Quickly
Dried
And died.
The pictures
Cruel pictures
Had lines on her face
So dry.
She regarded
Herself
Through the red light
The sore
The red eye,
The photographer.
His worn looking
Woman
The grey
Disappointment.
Closed off
Chased youth,
Mispent
Middle age
For a
Middle aged woman.
See her,
The large
Reckless
Mirror
With
Gentle red
Eyes
As she stands
Before
The work of a
Makeshift darkroom
In a
Camera.
