LETTER TO A BOY NEXT DOOR

Julia Ciesielska

give a small donation
 to someone always looking
 on the bright side
I see you often standing in a local chip shop
having usual set although could have me
I would be hanging on the outside
with the frozen hope that have not turned red
it doesn't last long because mother
 mutters like a prayer -
 what will neighbours think
 you appeared on t.v.
accused of killing two boys your age
I am having trouble naming you a terrorist
 my moral compass
cannot ask you out within reason
 so ask you beyond reason
for me you are still a boy
because of whom I didn't remember
how a star started to flicker
and went out into room dissolving
