This is an important food for survival as well as being used in ceremonies during initiation. The three central roundals are important sites in this dreaming story and you will see these in all paintings of bush tucker or wadion by Jack. Emu Dreaming: (2001)
(120x81cm acrylic on linen) Emu dreaming is one of Jacks most important dreaming stories and takes place at Paaridi to the NW of Yuendumu. The old emu man travelled from Nullagalong in the rivers around the area and was looking for tucker to feed himself and his family. He found the old bush turkey man and asked him what he was eating, the bush turkey told him he had rubbish tucker. The emu man did not believe him and followed him one day, he found that the bush turkey was eating good tucker, and was burying it so the emu could not find it. The emu was enraged and dug up the ground and found that tasty tucker and chased the turkey away. The split in the ground can still be seen today at Paaridi. |

Water Dreaming: (2000)
(126x82cm acrylic on linen) Water dreaming is another very important dreamtime story that takes place in the hills to the NW of Yuendumu. In this painting the wavy lines along on each side represent the clouds that form when rain is coming. the central roundel is an important waterhole and the central wavy line represents the rivers of water flowing after rain. The horizontal lines represent the rain falling.
