Tolmetin Sodium (Tolectin) NSAIDs

INDICATION

A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication used for the relief of pain, fever, and inflammation.

SIDE EFFECTS

Increased bleeding time, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, abdominal discomfort, ulcers, nausea, vomiting, kidney disorders, rash, itching, swelling, and elevated salt levels.

INTERACTIONS and PRECAUTIONS

  1. Anticoagulants (warfarin) can INCREASE the risk of bleeding.
  2. Use with aspirin, cortisone medications, or alcohol can increase the risk of stomach ulcers or bleeding.
  3. Use with ACE inhibitors (captopril, lisinopril, enalapril) can decrease the ACE inhibitor effect.
  4. Use with beta-blockers (propranolol, metoprolol, carteolol, nadolol, labetalol) can decrease their antihypertensive effect.
  5. Use with cephalosporin class antibiotics can promote bleeding.

USUAL DOSE

Adults: oral, 600 mg to 1.8 gram a day in three to four doses.

Paediatrics (2 years and over): oral 20 mg/kg body weight a day in divided doses.
