contemporary poetry at its very best

the collective

This 'What's On' page is here to let you know a little of 'what's current' with The Collective.

Our Events Officer responsible for this is

Ric Hool

Born in Kuala Lumpur, Ric Hool spent most of his childhood in Cullercoats (then a small fishing village 2 miles north of the River Tyne) and in the tradition of Geordies left at the earliest opportunity to fulfil a type of nomadic lifestyle.

He now lives in Wales and is a founder of the Gwent Writing Squad (the prototype for all other writing squads in Wales) and a regular INSET poetry tutor for schoolteachers in S.E.Wales. Ric Hool also takes creative writing workshops and promotes the long established poetry readings at Abergavenny’s famous Hen & Chickens.

He has read extensively in Wales & England, Ireland and in New York .

Mission Statement

If poetry remains relevant in modern cultures as a way of keeping in touch with the land that is trodden, then count me in.  If it's not, I'm still happy to write it and read it until that time might arrive.  If you are interested in inviting members of The Collective to read or take a workshop, please get in touch.  We hold poetry readings regularly and our imprint 'The Collective Press' is constantly looking for organisations and individuals for exchange / reciprocal venture.

This is a world invitation.

This is Jane Blank’s first full collection. It has been a long time in the making and fully justifies the care taken in assembling it. Sometimes uncomfortably blunt, sometimes heartbreakingly naïve, these poems show how an exquisitely controlled imagination can create a hotline to truth.

Ann Drysdale

For info, Jane will next be reading at Ottakar’s Bookshop, Abergavenny @ 6pm Wed 14th January 2004.

Angela Morton is a poet whose work reminds us that poetry is

word music, and that music wells from the heart.  Powerful,

sometimes painful feeling is matched by the craftsman's skill.

There are songs here that will be heard and cherished.

Ruth Bidgood
