The Workshop at the Omega Centre has ten workbenches, fairly closely placed so that it is not really possible to have more than ten students working at a time. Carving is done on the benches usually by supporting the work on a wooden support which is held in the bench vice.
There is a machine shop containing a band saw, pillar drill, lathe, table saw, linisher and various other power and hand tools. The students are allowed to use some of these machines after suitable instruction, providing a technician is present.
Here are a couple of students at work:

At the end of the year an exhibition is held of students' work, this is usually at the end of May. Carving is of course only part of the syllabus and here are a couple of different perspectives part of the BTec ND Exhibition in May 1997.
