In the last few years Hayling Island has completed the process of Twinning with the town of Gorron in Mayenne, France. There has been a close contact between the two communities for many years, with various groups visiting their counterparts in each of the towns.
A committee was set up in each town and between them they planned the various twinning ceremonies and exchanges. The following are some of the major Twinning Events that have taken place:
25/26th July 1998, when
a group of 23 people came over from Gorron to Hayling Island.

April 2001, the Hayling Island Tap School perform at the Gorron Cinema
Frank Pearce, Mayor of Havant about to sign the
Twinning Charter, aided by Averil Pollicott,
