The Grove singers was started about 25 years ago by a Blackheath doctor and keen amateur tenor,
David Adderley, in order to explore the small scale choral repertoire such as madrigals,
part-songs and glees. They met in his house, "The Grove" under the direction of Percy
Corben. David Adderly died of Cancer in 1995 and the part-song "Heraclitus" was a particular
favourite of his. It remains a firm favourite with the choir... "They told me, Heraclitus, they told me you were dead. ......... I wept as I remembered how often you and I would tire the sun with talking and watch him down the sky..." The Grove Singers have a wide repertoire of unaccompanied choral pieces, ranging from Elizabethan madrigals to arrangements of popular songs. They regularly sing at several National Trust properties and other local venues and in 1997 visited Barcelona where they gave a joint concert with the Choral Diaula. Music Director: Beverley Howard
