    January 22 Update

    Hikari Retires!

JWP Open Weight champion, Hikari Fukuoka has announced that she will be retiring from wrestling shortly. The reason she cited is a neck injury she suffered back in October, an injury that kept her on the sidelines until late December.

Hikari turned pro in 1989, working originally for Japanese Womens Pro, then for JWP when the promotion started in 1992. She is a former five team JWP Tag Team champion. Her best achievement came on April 8, 1997 when she pinned Dynamite Kansai to win the JWP Open Weight title. Hikari stills holds this belt and will probably become the first person to retire as champion.

The date of her retirement match has not yet been announced, although it seem likely that she will be involved in a six woman tag teaming with her Tag Team title holding partner Tomoko Kuzumi and Kanako Motoya.
