Insect in day lily

I found this insect in a daylily I shot in June, at a daylily garden in Riceville, TN. I do not know what kind of insect it is, but it posed very well for me. It was shot manually focused with my Canon 10D on Aperture-Priority Mode, Shutter Speed 1/15, Av 9.5, ISO Speed of 400. I used my 75-300 mm lens, set at 130 mm. No flash was used - I did not want to frighten the insect, and the sun was bright, since it was around noon. I did use a tripod. I cropped a tiny bit on the left and did the normal things to it, like adjusting the hue/saturation and brightness /contrast, plus sharpening.

John Hackett The contrast between the grey of the insect and the colour of the flower makes this stand out. The insect is very sharp, and fits in well with the softer areas of the flower.
Marti Buckely Very good. Nice sharp spider. I can't decide if the stamen (?) of the flowers on the right side would be better if more out of focus or not. This one's a definite keeper.

John Parker Another great image! The insect is very sharp and the colours are great. Crop maybe a little more of the right side & brighten the image a little bit. This is a keeper.
Bob Athanasiou Good Job, Pat! You've preserved the sharpness and depth of filed on this one and caught the bug in an interesting pose. The only thing I could suggest is cropping out the shadows on the right side of the photo.

Biography of Pat Gordy

Just in the past few years have I really gotten serious about photography as an art. In the late 1960s, I was a free lance reporter and took photographs to go along with my articles - even developed my own black and white prints. Then my children came along, and I mostly shot photos of family life events.

In 1999, after my husband (Wendell) took early retirement, he took the summer intensive photography course in Missoula, MT, with Rocky Mountain School of Photography, and came back home speaking a different language - all about photography. Afterwards, I took some photography classes in our local community college and attended workshops so I could learn what Wendell was talking about. Wendell has been a great inspiration for me. I enjoy all types of photography, but lately I have been drawn to shooting macros of patterns and textures. I use a Canon Rebel EOS G for slides and a Canon 10-D for digital, which I process on my PC and print on an Epson printer.

We are members of the Photographic Society of Chattanooga, and PSA. I have served on the PSC Board in different capacities and am currently President Elect, PSC newsletter editor, and club representative to PSA. Since I have quit work, we enjoy our photography hobby while traveling in our RV. I love learning and am looking forward to the EI Study Group.
