Antelope Canyon

It is entitled "Antelope Canyon" and was taken at Antelope Canyon in northern Arizona near the town of Page. This was the only shot that I took during my visit that I felt did "some" justice to this beautiful slot canyon. Satisfactory lighting is very difficult to find at the best of times. As it was with this shot I hand held my camera at 1/20th of a second by leaning up against the side of the canyon. Flash could not be used at it washes out any colour that is present. It was originally taken with 35 mm colour film (200 ISO) and then scanned. I don't recall the lens I used. I pumped up the colour a little and adjusted the levels slightly to give the image some punch. A little sharpening was also applied. I look forward to your comments.

John Hackett Wonderful colour and such appealing shapes. Images of Antelope Canyon always impress me and this is no exception. I will have to get there one day.
Marti Buckely This is an interesting study. When I first looked at it, I saw a scowling man and when I looked at it again, I saw a rather sad looking man. It depends on whether I was viewing the rocks to the left or to the right of the center. The opening definitely seems like an eye to me. The sides could possibly show a little more color and light but it might be my monitor also.
Pat Gordy It sounds like shooting this image was terribly difficult. For all that much trouble, you have a pretty good image – good detail, nice color, which seems to be framed by the darker rock. I am looking forward to going to Antelope Canyon in September, after the PSA Conference and will hope I can get a shot as good as yours. Nice job!

Bob Athanasiou GREAT Job, John! Slot canyon shots are really difficult and you got the technical aspects of this one nailed! The twisted form and the subtle colors are eye catching; the eye is grabbed by the balanced rock and easily travels down the picture to the bottom. Love it!

Biography of John Parker

Hello everyone! My name is John Parker and I have had a casual interest in photography for about 45 years. I was born in 1943 & raised in Toronto, moving to London, Ontario in 1974. I have been involved in computer software development for 40 years and have my own computer software company. In an effort to improve my photographic abilities I joined the London Camera Club in 2003 (where I now serve on the executive committee), I enrolled in PSA, purchased a Canon 10D and some additional lenses, purchased software, and have become more seriously involved in the entire photographic process. I take almost exclusively digital images now and I really enjoy working with Photoshop (I still have much to learn). I take photographs of just about everything, with a special interest in my dogs, flowers and landscapes. I look forward to being part of this study group so that I can learn from the experience of the other members.
