Concrete and Glass

Taken from the top of Calgary Tower I liked the contrast between the concrete and the glass. I cropped the image and cloned out some distractions on the roof area, such as hosepipes and signs.

Marti Buckely On my monitor, the reflective building is rather dark and it's hard to tell what it is. The reflection is nice and it produces a good contrast with the light building. I keep thinking that a different angle would be better but I'm not sure what that would be.
Pat Gordy This is an interesting composition – different than the usual city shot over a broad area. I like the idea of a reflection, but feel that too much has been left in for it to be a really powerful image. It does seem that your exposure was right on target.

John Parker Great contrast. Looks surreal - almost like a model you see in architects office. Nice job of cleaning up the top of the buildings.
Bob Athanasiou John your usual eye for composition and pattern is evident in this picture but I find the upper and lower halves to be disjunctive. The glass and reflection part in the upper half is very interesting but the lower half grounds the photo too much. Perhaps some colour would work to soften the disjunction. I like it but I don't like it as much as some of your other work that was simpler and more elegant.

Biography of John Hackett

I live in Coventry, England along with my wife Dawn.

Photography has been a passion of mine for many years, whiling away the hours in a darkened room I have always been interested in manipulating the images I have taken. As the computer gradually invaded my life I saw the 'light' and now play with my images digitally.
I have been involved with photographic clubs in my local area since the late 1970s, and a member of the Royal Photographic Society since the mid 1980s.

My membership of PSA only began in early 2001.

Photographically my current equipment Consists of a Canon EOS outfit, with a range of lenses, from 24mm to 400mm, my favourites being 24mm, 90mm macro and 400mm, a Voigtlander Bessa R2, with 35mm and 90mm lenses and a Fuji Finepix s7000 digital camera

As far as photographic subjects are concerned I will point the camera at most things with preferences for landscapes, natural history and sports (as long as it involves wheels).

When it comes to the digital side of things I use Photoshop and Corel Photopaint, on a custom built system, with an AMD Athlon 1060Mhz Processor, 512Mb RAM and a 80Gb Hard Drive.
