Auberges de Cendrillon

(Cinders' place)

Cost: ££££

Location: Adjacent to the Castle's East wing

Our rating: Busy and expensive but with very high standards of food preparation and presentation with the ubiquitous children's menu of burger and beans to supplement your pate fois gras and peacock's hearts in aspic.

Expensive, but excellent food served in a fantastic setting. If noveau cuisine is to your liking, then this is worth a visit, but booking is advisable as the place fills quickly. Service is superb and the cast members are straight out of the story.

As an aside, given that this restaurant has been given exceptionally high honours by France's culinery magazines, it's fascinating to consider how Gordon Ramsey would react if asked to supplement his fare with a kids' menu of beans and mash.
