Tiredness
It is hard to keep this sort of column going, not least when you are also trying to write two books, as well as helping to develop a new site for the British Fantasy Society.
The books are Doctor Who: The Television Companion for the BBC and Doctor Who: The Handbook: The Seventh Doctor for Virgin. In fact they're not finished as I write this, and I should really be working on them but I needed a break to do something different.
It's amazing how tired you can get reading through proofs and checking material every night. The Television Companion covers the entire series and there are around 500 manuscript pages, single spaced, to get through. That's around 300,000 words - or three standard BBC novels! Much as I love the show, I have to say that I'll be glad when these books are finished.
In the mean time I've been re-acquainting myself with another show I love, Lost in Space. With the film coming up, interest has been high and I've so far contributed a short piece for Cult Times and a longer piece for Cult TV which I now hear might not appear! Such are the perils of writing. I've also been buying myself some toys.
Since the series was first on, I've always wanted one of the Lost in Space robots, and, with the interest generated by the film, I've got two of them. One is a superb key chain that says three things, and the other is a ten inch model which also talks and which has a motion sensor in it. They are both seriously fab! I've also picked up the trading cards (I never learn) and am currently trying to find a couple of the special cards to complete the set. Hopefully this won't be as painful as collecting the MMG Doctor Who cards.
Who knows what other avenues might open up from Lost in Space. For the moment, I'm just enjoying watching a few of the episodes and having my very own Robot.
