The Nine Lives of Gallifrey One

Having just experienced my first American Doctor Who convention with the lovely people at The Nine Lives of Gallifrey One, I thought that a) it was about time to add another Howe's Who to the site and b) that rather than writing about it, I'd present a handful of photos from the event.

So ... here we go on a visual tour of one of the best conventions, if not the best convention, I've ever attended.

Here we see the scintillating Laura Gjovaag sitting on the MONSTERS panel and obviously having the most wonderful time. Aside from wondering why she was there in the first place (alongside a Cybermen, yours truly and the very Scottish David McIntee) she is also pondering what evil punishment to mete out on the organisers for suggesting that she 'do a panel' in the first place.

Going to a convention is one of the rare chances that Gary Russell has of practising his handwriting. Here we see young Gazza trying hard to forge Peter Darvill-Evans' signature in the hope that he can then bribe Virgin Publishing into giving him more money for his books.

No convention would be complete without 'proper' guests and here is a rare example spotted at Gallifrey. This is an authentic 'Troughton' guest, complete with plumage. Any resemblance to Deborah Watling is completely coincidental.

For many, the highlight of the whole convention. A gaggle of Brits performing that Ian Levine Classic 'Doctor in Distress' to a packed cabaret audience. From left to right, the culprits are: Steve 'Crooner' Cole, Gary 'Heroin' Gillatt, Jaq 'Benny' Rayner, Paul 'Lemmy' Cornell, Keith 'Glitter' Topping and Dave 'Cleveland' Owen.

Paul Cornell chats to his fans while his minder, Keith 'Belushi' Topping keeps an eye out for trouble.

The Brits minus one settle down for a freezing final panel on the future of Doctor Who. From left to right: Martin Day, Andy Lane, Paul Cornell, Keith Topping, Gary Gillatt, Steve Cole, a mysteriously empty chair, David J Howe and Dave McIntee. No prizes for guessing who is not there.

Gary Gillatt is perturbed when he is approached by a strange figure during the Dalek Attack Ice Cream party to close the con. The figure, bohemianly dressed and proffering a paper bag in which could be found jelly babies, only wanted to say hello, but our Gary left the room screaming shortly after.
