67th Entry RAF Halton Aircraft Apprentices

History of the Entry

It all started for us on 9th January 1951 when we arrived as sprogg brats on a chill winters day to begin induction, kitting out and three weeks full time square bashing, after which we enjoyed three years part time square bashing(!) interspersed with bouts of technical and scholastic education.

The presentation of the Queens Colour to No 1 School of Technical Training on July 25th 1952 was
a brilliant ceremony graced by the presence of the new monarch, HM Queen Elizabeth II.

In contrast to the above, the traditional Bear March passing through the gates at Groves\Henderson.

After this informal parade, marking our last attendance for apprentice training, we proceeded to our final act as brats,  graduation on 15th December 1953 before Air Marshal Sir Dermot Boyle, then AOC-in-C Fighter Command, and we were posted to our new units with effect from 4th January 1954. There were 162 graduates including 31 from Pakistan. The parade was commanded by Flight Sergeant Aircraft Apprentice G.T.  Milne.

The 67th Entry Association

The 67th Entry Association is a thriving society organized by Cyril E. Large. Members of the entry who are not members of the association and who would like to join should get in touch with Cyril on 01733 756498 (or e-mail cyril385@tiscali.co.uk).
Our first reunion was in 1991 celebrating the 40th anniversary of the entry joining up and we have held one every year since then.
In 2001 the reunion at the Bedford Moat House on 6/7/8 April marked 50 years since we joined up and it was gratifying that 51 ex-brats travelled from far and wide to attend the occasion accompanied by 35 of their ladies.
In 2004 the reunion, marking the half century from the year we graduated, was held at the Reading Moat House on 17th April and once again we were joined by the Cranwell contingent. For this special occasion Harry Wray of the 52nd Entry piped us in and Jeannette Large baked a  beautiful cake.  In 2007 the reunion will be at The Devon Hotel, Exeter   and will be on the 20,21st April 2007.
