Preliminary base

This is a traditional fold which forms the start of many different models.

Please e-mail me, if you have any trouble following these instructions. I will try to update these pages from time to time to make the instructions easier.

Start with a square of paper. Fold diagonally and open out again.
Turn the paper over.

Fold the paper in half right-to-left then open out again.

Fold the top half of the paper down to the bottom. (Press 'Refresh' or 'Reload' on your browser to view the animation again)

Hold the two top corners in each hand. Move your hands down and towards each other. This will bring the two bottom corners together.

You will end up holding some thing that looks a bit like the flight feathers from an arrow or a dart.

Make the base flat by bringing two flaps together on either side.

This is the finished preliminary base. It has a closed end at the top, and an open end at the bottom.
