What are the roles of calcium in the genotype - phenotype
argument?
2-Oxoglutarate dehydrogenase
I think this is also (alpha)-Ketoglutarate dehydrogenase (EC 1.2.4.2), an
enzyme in the Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle (TCA), the main respiration cycle in
mitochondria. (Goodwin, T.W. & Mercer, E.I. 1983,
p.211)
Assuming so...
Biological properties:
- Substrates: 2-oxoglutaratic acid, co-enzymeA.SH (CoA.SH), NAD+ (ibid.)
- Products: Succinyl-CoA, NADH + H+, CO2 (ibid.)
- Inhibited by Arsenite (ibid.)
- Increased substrate affinity with increased Ca2+ concentration
in the mitochondrial matrix over the range .1 - 1uM (Nicholls, D.G.
& Ferguson, S.J. 1992, pp.211-212)
- "It is composed of multiple copies of three enzymes which are
analogues of those of pyruvate dehydrogenase; in fact the
NADH;lipoamide oxidoreductases of the two complexes appear to be
identical." (Goodwin, T.W. & Mercer, E.I. 1983,
p.210) See polymorphism
