Current work:

Residential Schools:  Director and tutor on Level 1 and Level 2 courses (L221 & LXR 122).    Responsible for Academic Liaison [interlocuteur privilégié] matters with the University of Caen. In charge of academic side of set-up week in Caen.  

Course Team Chair (Maintenance) for (L120)  Ouverture March 2003 - present. Lyceum tuition for this course under code LZX120.

Course Team member for L211 Nouvel Envol. This course is supported on-line via the university's Lyceum tutoring method.  Lyceum materials created by the course team.

Course Team member (author) for production of 'Horizons', a French Writing Skills book at Level Two.  The book is part of the Nouvel Envol Level Two 60-point course (L211). First presentation in 2003.  

Course Team member (writer) for production of Level 2 Nouvel Envol Residential School course  (L211) based on "simulation globale" principles. 

Course Team Chair (tutor and director) for a 10 point Level One residential short course 'Action in French' (LXR122) held annually at the University of Caen.

Course Team member (author) of Beginners French course (L192) to write some units due to illness of team members.  First presentation November 2004.

The published report of my research [Using Quality and Accuracy ratings to quantify the Value Added of a Dictionary Skills Training Course.  ALL: Language Learning Journal, December 2001 No. 24 , 62 – 69]  has been incorporated as an 'included study' in the EPPI Systematic Review of Strategy Training in Modern Languages ( the only UK study to be included) published in September 2005  and will contribute, in conjunction with the other 24 included studies, to inform government policy on cognitive strategy training.

Diplomatic Service Language  Centre  

Member of a team from the Open University and Kings College, London undertaking  a  two year review of the DSLC's Language Allowance Examinations for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. January 1997 - January 2000  

External Assessor [MFL] for the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority 1996/7,1997/8, 1998/9.   Consultancy contracts to inspect the GCSE Awarding Bodies to monitor the implementation of the Code of Practice and to advise on comparability of standards between examinations in GCSE French and German.  

Oxford University Press - consultancy to redraft  and advise on the preliminary material in the introductions to the French, German and Spanish Learner Dictionaries.   These three dictionaries have been recently revised by the Oxford University Press.  I was invited to assist in the revising of the preliminary introduction material on how best to use a dictionary and on a glossary of grammatical terms.  

Keynote speaker at the National Senior GCSE Examiners' Conference at the QCA, November 1998.  

Invited to a QCA  Seminar to consider the draft criteria to advise ministers on the 'use of aids in examinations', November 1998

Deputy Secretary [1989 - 1996] of Oxford and Cambridge Schools Examination Board .  Principal roles: Servicing Officer for our Modern Language A Level syllabuses and for French GCSE [M.E.G.] 

Adult evening classes  for members of the university at the Oxford University Language Centre and at West Oxfordshire College. 

Teaching French and German in secondary schools in both the independent and state sectors [1970 - 1989].  Head of Faculty and Head of Department 1977 - 1989.

Chief Examiner and syllabus designer for the Advanced Level in French for Professional Use (OCSEB), which concentrated on language skills of practical use in industry and commerce.  This was the first modular language A level accepted by the QCA.
