Head of Malvern Girls' College (girl boarding school 11-18 - 440 pupils)
in 1994. During her time there she established a strategic direction which
included the Malvern Girls' College Foundation (which subsequently led
to the building of a new Science Education Centre).
Whilst at Malvern Girls College she appeared with Gavin Hewitt on BBC's Panorama,
a programme on the recreational use of drugs amongst youngsters, she was
invited to speak with Margaret Hodge on Women's Hour and as a Head gave
many interviews to national and local media.
She was invited by the Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) to become the
Acting Principal of St Andrews, (co-educational 4-11, 320 pupils) an independent
primary school in Kent. Since completing that assignment she has been
asked to become a Member of CfBT.
Campaigning for education nationally ……………………

etc).

Campaigning locally
Working with young people has always been an important focus for Anne.
She is keen to support Woking Football Club’s Academy and was appointed
the first Chairman of a group planning to build an innovative youth centre
in her former council ward of Merrow. She said “there is an excellent
team with complementary skills and they are building a wide network. Young
people have demonstrated that they want to be involved in the design of
this centre, and we welcomed the older people who are showing great interest
and support as well.”
Working with Woking…………………
Anne has been working with Woking councillors for some time now. She liaised
between the Guildford and Woking Council Groups to produce a joint statement
in response to Surrey County Council’s spacial strategy which threatened
green belt land in the area. She also supported their 2002 Borough campaign.
She said: “Woking is one of the seats that we can win at the next
General Election. All the pieces are moving into place for a very exciting
campaign.”
Campaigning for teachers and heads
..
Next Chapter Ltd is a company which offers careers guidance, mentoring,
research and project management for those who work in education. It was

Educating lawyers, bankers and doctors……………………
Anne was appointed as a Visiting Fellow in Educational Studies at the
University of Surrey in 1986, an appointment which lasted for eight years
- double the normal length of time. She was awarded her PhD for research
into primary care ('Conflict in General Practice') in 1994.

their teaching style to enable students to cope with increasing amounts
