For anyone who went to Selhurst Grammar School in Croydon, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the OCA is still in existence and with membership at an all time high things seem to be going OK. The bad news is that the latest membership list shows that very few Old Boys and Old Girls have joined (out of the potential membership) and consequently news and information is lacking about the majority of them.
Which is a sad thing in a way, since at recent reunions, the most frequently asked question was, "Whatever happened to so and so - I saw them n years ago, but heard nothing since". Indeed the most frequent topic in the current e-mails seems to be ....... "and where are they now?"
These questions are also raised in most issues of the OCA magazine. There are many extracts from letters asking for news of their contemporaries as well as providing a potted history since leaving school. So there is a great interest in finding out what has happened to old friends and there are now plenty of opportunities to do so.
But as you have just found this site, why not get in touch now?
Make a start by looking at the latest OCA site which is in the process of being set up as the Association's official site.
Alternatively you can go to the earlier Old Croydonians website where you can join the croydonian listing hosted by yahoogroups.
The latest issue of the Newsletter is just out and I will add a few choice bits from it here when I get a chance.
It seems that in most years the school had someone who closely resembled this individual - perhaps you can put a name to him?
If you can't remember him then I have been putting
together some pages to help those who have forgotten who was in their class.
I already have a list of those who entered in that vintage year,
1943.
Also here are some extracts from the Calendar for 1949-50. Why not take a
closer look?
Incidentally, you may want to join Friends Reunited. Yes, at the last count there were 988 past pupils from SGSfB who had joined, but why stick to emails when you can be a member of the OCA?
If you have any queries on the above or you are interested in joining the Old Croydonians Association, please e-mail me. Can you please put OCA in the subject line so that I can avoisd throwing it out with the spam.
