Wednesday 11 July 2001 - Thursday 12 July 2001Two consecutive nights in the same place - luxury. Actually, this isn't strictly true as the place was Wabasso Campground in Jasper National Park, which is very pretty but lacking in any facilities except for a toilet block. We tried to get into a site with facilities, but were deemed too big - cheek. Walked the long steep trail next to Mount Edith Cavell up to the subalpine meadows which were just coming into flower. Great views of the Angel Glacier ...
... and we were lucky enough to see a couple of moderate avalanches. They don't look very much - a bit of snow falling down the hillside - but really do sound like thunder. Nice flowers too ...
We saw a mother grizzly and two cubs on our way back to the campsite, but they were so far away that they're only about eight pixels across in the picture so you'll have to take our word for it. Back to British Columbia tomorrow. |
